The Royal Life Saving Bronze Medallion is recognised as the minimum standard for a qualified lifesaver. The course aims to develop the level of judgement, technique and physical ability required to safely carry out water rescues and involves practical applications, assessments of CPR on manikins, as well as a theory exam. A Statement of Attainment from Royal Life Saving will be issued upon successful completion in the following units:

The Bronze Medallion Re-accreditation course is for those that need to re-accredit an existing Bronze Medallion qualification. You need to have an existing RLSS Pool Lifeguard Award (dated less than 12 months) to complete an Update. Please contact us if you would like to confirm the date of your current certificate. A Statement of Attainment from Royal Life Saving will be issued upon successful completion in the following units:

The current minimum industry requirement for employment as a Pool Lifeguard at a Swimming Pool or Aquatic Facility is the Royal Life Saving Pool Lifeguard qualification. The Pool Lifeguard course is conducted over three days (two days for those who hold a RLSS Bronze Medallion). Participants must have current HLTAID003 Provide First Aid Statement of Attainment to enrol into this course. This course aims to develop acceptable standards of knowledge, judgement and physical abilities for the supervision of people in swimming pools and involves practical applications as well as a theory exam. A Statement of Attainment from Royal Life Saving will be issued upon successful completion in the following units:

To complete the Pool Lifeguard Course you must have a current (issued within 2.5 years) First Aid Certificate with unit of competence HLTAID003 or HLTAID012. If you do not have a current certificate, you can either register for the the course 'Pool Lifeguard Package' (which is the full Pool Lifeguard Course plus First Aid Course), or register for a First Aid Course (Click here to register for a First Aid Course). If you proceed with a Pool Lifeguard Course and do not have a First Aid Certificate, we will not be able to issue you with a certificate until you supply a verified First Aid Certificate.
