Vale: Mr Rod Welford – Life Member, RLSSQ
It is with deep sadness that we inform members of the passing of Mr Rod Welford, who passed away this morning.
Rod was a Life Member of both Royal Life Saving Society Queensland (RLSSQ) and Royal Life Saving Society – Australia (RLSSA), and also made significant contributions to Surf Life Saving. He served as RLSSQ State President, was a longstanding board member at both state and national levels, and proudly represented the Society as a member of State life saving sports team.
Professionally, Rod was a distinguished solicitor and barrister. He also served the Queensland community as a Member of Parliament, first representing Stafford in 1989 and later Everton, remaining in office until 1992. During his parliamentary career, he held a number of ministerial portfolios, including Attorney-General and Minister for Justice.
RLSSQ State President Nicky Sloan, who succeeded Mr Welford, acknowledged his leadership during a pivotal period of growth and transformation within the organisation, and expressed gratitude for his dedicated service.
We extend our deepest condolences to Rod’s family, friends, and colleagues. His legacy and contribution to lifesaving and public service will not be forgotten.
